Receiving blankets are definitely the most versatile type of baby blanket because they are highly multi-functional and can be used for almost any purpose, including a play mat, burp cloth, swaddling blanket, breastfeeding cover and more. However, they are designed specifically to receive the baby at his birth.
When talking about personalized gifts for a baby, there are various things that you can choose from. Personalized baby blankets have become popular these days. The reason boils down to the fact that every baby needs a blanket. This makes blankets a universal gift. Personalizing the gift definitely makes it unique and more attractive.
There are snuggle blankets for children which comes in small sizes. They are usually softer because of the materials used. Amongst the most famous blanket in the market today is the Korean blanket. They are made from very soft fabric which is perfect for small kids. It is so soft that a lot of people think it is made from the spin fur of mink. However, those are just fiction. In reality, the fabric of Korean blanket is synthetic acrylic cloth. What makes it soft is the thread count and superior craftsmanship.
Down blankets or down comforters are made with layers of fine feathers from ducks and geese. Down has an excellent thermal quality and is light-weight. The density of down will determine the amount of warmth. Some down comforters claim that they are washable, but the feathers can clump together when exposed to moisture and are susceptible to mildew. The feathers can also retain odors. It is highly recommended that you have the comforter professionally cleaned.
We will start with cotton blankets. Cotton has been around for thousands of years and is a major player in all bedding. Using cotton alone for a blanket really didn`t work well because it will not stand up to frequent washings. When synthetics were discovered it was decided to blend them with the cotton to add strength and durability for a better blanket. Fibers like polyester and acrylic will improve a cotton blanket, especially if you are looking for a blanket that will not wrinkle very much and can be washed quite often. But if you have allergies or sensitive skin a 100% cotton blanket would be better for you. For a heavier cotton blanket you should look for a woven cotton blanket in a herringbone mesh pattern or a basket weave pattern to keep you warm and will still be breathable and soft.
