There are a wide range of blankets on the market today. The most common ones are wool, cotton, poly cotton blend and fleece. There are also a number of luxury blankets available and they are silk, cashmere and chenille. We learned quite a lot about wool blankets in my last article. Now I will explain the composition of other blankets available in the marketplace today and help you in your search for a blanket or blankets that will satisfy all your bedroom needs.
It became painfully clear how ill-informed and ill-prepared our society is for the ineffable end-of-life event that will surely touch us all. In this fast-moving culture where elders are often pushed aside, viewed as burdens rather than precious reservoirs of wisdom, the ancient rituals and ceremonies that truly honor aging, and the sacred transition to the afterlife, have all but disappeared. Is it really any wonder we feel shocked, and lost, and utterly terrified when Death`s hard knuckles finally wrap upon our door?
We will start with cotton blankets. Cotton has been around for thousands of years and is a major player in all bedding. Using cotton alone for a blanket really didn`t work well because it will not stand up to frequent washings. When synthetics were discovered it was decided to blend them with the cotton to add strength and durability for a better blanket. Fibers like polyester and acrylic will improve a cotton blanket, especially if you are looking for a blanket that will not wrinkle very much and can be washed quite often. But if you have allergies or sensitive skin a 100% cotton blanket would be better for you. For a heavier cotton blanket you should look for a woven cotton blanket in a herringbone mesh pattern or a basket weave pattern to keep you warm and will still be breathable and soft.
