There are a wide range of blankets on the market today. The most common ones are wool, cotton, poly cotton blend and fleece. There are also a number of luxury blankets available and they are silk, cashmere and chenille. We learned quite a lot about wool blankets in my last article. Now I will explain the composition of other blankets available in the marketplace today and help you in your search for a blanket or blankets that will satisfy all your bedroom needs.
You need to know how big the blanket has to be. A picnic with the whole family and kids will have to be bigger than a blanket you`re bringing outdoors with you to read a book by yourself. This matters for any other situation where you can have different sizes (for example, camping and sleeping alone or with a partner, a blanket for your pet,...). Just like the thickness of a blanket, the size will have an impact on its weight, space and how easy it is to fold.
There are snuggle blankets for children which comes in small sizes. They are usually softer because of the materials used. Amongst the most famous blanket in the market today is the Korean blanket. They are made from very soft fabric which is perfect for small kids. It is so soft that a lot of people think it is made from the spin fur of mink. However, those are just fiction. In reality, the fabric of Korean blanket is synthetic acrylic cloth. What makes it soft is the thread count and superior craftsmanship.
Down blankets or down comforters are made with layers of fine feathers from ducks and geese. Down has an excellent thermal quality and is light-weight. The density of down will determine the amount of warmth. Some down comforters claim that they are washable, but the feathers can clump together when exposed to moisture and are susceptible to mildew. The feathers can also retain odors. It is highly recommended that you have the comforter professionally cleaned.
